The Road Home: Part Four

The Final Word . . .

They run, not walk, with shock threaded through joy,
shouting as they burst through the door with great noise.
“He’s alive and we’ve seen unbelievable things!”
“Nonsense,” they say, “You’re living a dream.”

But Peter and John want to know for themselves,
and they run for the tomb to inspect the shelf.
Only linens are found, their Lord is now missing.
Understanding seeps in, good thing they were listening.

Meanwhile, those guards are telling what happened.
The priests are in panic, “This can’t get traction.”
“If people begin to think this is true,
our reign as rulers will soon be through.”

They fatten the pockets of the guards with a bribe,
“This is the story you’ll tell—yes, you’ll lie.
While you were sleeping, those folks came to steal,
and they took His body—what you saw—not real.”

But there was no stopping this train now a-rolling.
People are seeing Him everywhere, not stolen.
Reports of His living are heralded loud
from the Marys to Emmaus to the 500 crowd.

For His grieving disciples, the message becomes clear
as they sat behind locked doors, hiding in fear.
Jesus appears for them and stands in their room.
“Peace be with you,” he says, and shows them His wounds.

They shout cheers to Thomas when he returns.
“We’ve seen Him! The miracles have taken their turn!”
“Whatever you say, only by His wounds I’ll think true.”
So, Jesus shows back up with something to prove.

Now there’s no doubt, not even for Thomas,
fears overcome by fulfillment of promise.
“He lives! He lives! Our Lord is alive!
Mourning is over, now we can thrive.”

Jesus gifts them the spirit within breath to forgive.
“Now you’re apostles, go help others live.”
Forty days more, He grants last lessons to teach.
Even in fishing, He shows up at the beach.

With a dinner of fish over memories of coal,
He offers unearned redemption for Peter’s soul.
Denial reversed thrice through lambs and through sheep.
Peter’s solid as a rock, but reminders bring grief.

Peter walks in forgiveness at a level all new,
and agrees to the weight, adding, “Lord, my love’s true.”
There’s no more hiding, the ministry must now grow,
And He opens their mind so the scriptures they’ll know.

He commissions their going to all nation’s call.
And tells them how prophecy fulfilled the law.
Once plans are shared and He’s sure they know,
He ascends to heaven and sits right by the throne.

The greatest story on earth and from far above,
started with Jesus and ended with love.
But the story’s not over, it continues today,
with every heart rescued and each moment we pray.

It’s not just a story from history past
but a living example of a hope that’s been cast.
For I was not worthy by sin and by shame.
The burden was mine until He said my name.

With every nail hammered, He held on for me,
as those without insight nailed Christ to a tree.
The weight of my choices on His shoulders to bear,
as undeserved redemption invites me to care.

And now it’s the story that I will tell too.
But not just my story, it’s also for you.
Jesus gave everything for all who will hear
and invites us to live released from the fears.

True freedom still beckons from garden to grave,
through a man and a God who died to be raised.
He calls for His loved ones to welcome them home
and continues His promise that you’re never alone.

To be continued . . . someday.

Just a Thought

It wasn’t a random sighting that started the rumors. It was one after another after another. Story after story of someone seeing Jesus. For forty straight days, hundreds saw the risen King, heard Him speak, and bowed to worship. They called out His name not in terror, but in great revelation and understanding and joy. Everything He said now makes sense to them. And to me. It all has been for us. This is a story I want to tell forever. I wish it was a story we did not so easily bury among the busy. I pray I see it resurrected daily, both in my words and my actions. Today, it is by poem, tomorrow it may be by song or paint. But I hope my every action is in remembrance of what was given and what is yet to come. Thankful will seem to be enough. I walk each day with the knowledge that the best way to thank someone for a life is to give it back.

Just for You

“I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me.”
~Galatians 2:20 (NASB)

Try Again

We all know that God forgives our mistakes. But how are we affecting His mission in this world when we don't forgive ourselves?

Look Around

We only get one chance to look around when it comes to reality. What are we missing when we forget to? Could we be missing the point?

Just Light

Some say they are just words. I say they have meaning. Learn what the word "light" means to me and and to my repurposed heart.

My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
