Safe Haven

A Heart Safely Loved . . .

In the dark corners of my broken trust,
In the harsh expectations of you always must,
You proved steady for me in an abundance of storms,
You repaired a heart that had been shattered and torn.

Giving me life where I thought I could not be reached,
Evidence of different than what I used to seek.
Granting me shelter from the terrible cold,
A gift of safe haven to have and to hold.

Complete, sincere, authentic, and real,
Never merely based on just how you feel,
But on an instant connection to my weary heart,
That you sought and cherished right from the start.

In the weakness I hid so no one would know,
You planted seeds of faith you knew would grow.
In this world that left me behind and moved on,
You stood by my side, held fast, stood strong.

You granted forgiveness to me when I was wrong,
Grace and mercy when my faith was gone,
Waiting patiently for my eventual return,
Still holding a love that never had to be earned.

It was there in the moment I realized we’d met,
It was there in the moment when my mind was set.
It has never left me in all of this time,
It was an unshakable gift when you said, “you’re mine”.

You loved me right where I was found,
Even though I stood atop shaky ground.
A promise to my future within your hope,
Granting me guidance I needed and strength to cope.

I look to you now, fixing my eyes,
Seeking you only . . . others need not apply.
Unconditional presence keeping me steady,
Always there waiting, you’re always ready.

In my heart you are cherished as I am in yours,
Together we fly, like the eagles we soar.
Encouraged in heart, reaching above,
Safe in your arms, grace united in love.

Just a Thought

Who is this poem about? There are many answers and the one for you exists only for you. For me, these words are about many people and many things. God’s love for my broken heart, a husband’s love for a girl who was someone’s abandoned, even a lost hope that became proven existence. Those are my reasons. Yours will be your own.

Written for those who are searching and those who are found, the gratitude may be an expectation or already a given. I pray you find your safe haven on earth and in heaven.

Buried No More

I closed my eyes. Just take a deep breath. Just do the next thing. One foot in front of the other.

Recovery Begins

As I watched devastation and tragedy strike all around me, I found something unexpected; hearts still willing to climb despite the pain.

Change of Heart

We are most comfortable when things go the way we expect. But what does it do to our hearts when things don't go as planned?

My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
