How many times have you told God to stop this week?  To stay in His lane? None? You sure?

If I am being honest with myself, I have probably done it fifteen if not twenty times . . . today alone.

We don’t mean to. We don’t set out in our day with any intention whatsoever to put God in a box or tell him how far He can go. We just go about our day, taking the hits and the blessings as they come along, and then before we know it, we have taken over complete control of our own lives and managed to tell God “No thank you, I got this.”

Let’s talk for a second about what is missing from that situation other than God? The opportunities. All the missed opportunities.

For when we are happy with where we are, when we are content with good enough, when we are pleased that things are calm, when we are thankful that nothing is changing, we are living safely in the status quo. God promised us something a bit more than status quo. There is a life in abundance to be had—a life we can’t possibly plan or imagine—a life full of opportunities we could have never created on our own.

And if we are living in the status quo, we might want to talk about believing in God versus believing God. Believing Him when He says He has more for your life.  Believing Him when He says He has got it under control. Believing God when He says you can be still while He works, instead of scurrying about trying to keep it all perfectly in check.

So maybe we tolerate a little discomfort when things seem out of control to see what may unfold.  Maybe we say yes to a task or job that is out of our comfort zone.  Maybe we be still, even amidst crisis, and watch how God uses the bad times for good beyond our imagination. Maybe today we don’t tell God when and where to stop by taking matters into our own hands, but watch what He can do when we say “He’s got this” and step away.
